Jung Eun-chae has confirmed through her agency on June 21 that she accepted the role offered to her in The King: The Eternal Monarch, becoming the latest addition to the star-studded cast of the drama.
Written by acclaimed screenwriter Kim Eun-sook (Mr. Sunshine, Goblin, Descendants of the Sun), The King: The Eternal Monarch is a fantasy romance drama that tells the story of an emperor (Lee Min-ho) and a modern-day detective (Kim Go-eun) who cross paths with each other after a demon opens a portal that connects their two parallel worlds. As the two work together to shut the portal and protect their loved ones from danger, they develop feelings that deepen their relationship.
Jung Eun-chae, who starred in OCN’s The Guest last year, signed up for the role of Koo Seo-ryeong, the youngest prime minister of the Korean Empire whose next target is the emperor. Her character is described as someone who goes to any length to realize her ambitions and get hold of success.
The actress said that she is honored to take part in Kim Eun-sook’s work and she will do her best because “it’s something that many people expect” from her.
The King: The Eternal Monarch will be directed by Baek Sang-hoon who also worked on Descendants of the Sun as its co-director. It will enter production in the second half of the year and premiere in the first half of 2020.
