Jun Ji-hyun, Ju Ji-hoon’s ‘Jiri Mountain’ confirms broadcast network, begins filming

The highly anticipated series Jiri Mountain will hit small screens via tvN, as revealed by the entertainment network on the 18th.

tvN shared through news outlets, “Jiri Mountain will be scheduled for next year and will begin shooting for the first time today.”

Jiri Mountain, set against the backdrop of South Korea’s second-highest peak, will revolve around the stories of people who trek the unexplored areas around the Jirisan National Park. As some of them get lost and face unknown dangers, the park rangers, armed with their own expertise, risk their lives to come to their rescue.

The drama has cast award-winning actors for its main roles: Jun Ji-hyun (The Legend of the Blue Sea) as the best mountain ranger Seo Yi-gang; Ju Ji-hoon (Hyena) as the mysterious rookie ranger Kang Hyun-jo; Sung Dong-il (The Cursed) as branch director Cho Dae-jin; and Oh Jung-se (The Good Detective) as the peculiar ranger Jung Gu-yeong.

The production has also tapped exceptional drama creators. PD Lee Eung-bok of Descendants of the Sun (2016), Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016–2017), and Mr. Sunshine (2018) will be directing the series, while writer Kim Eun-hee of Netflix’s two-season series Kingdom (2019, 2020) is in charge of the script. Given the drama’s powerhouse cast and crew, expectations on the show are set quite high.

In consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jiri Mountain’s production team has also assured that they are strictly practicing strengthened quarantine rules for everyone’s safety. “We are going to proceed with [the filming] with the safety of the actors and staff as our priority. We will do our best to [get off to] a good start,” they shared.
