Joo Won turns into a fearless detective in new character stills from upcoming SBS sci-fi drama ‘Alice’

After the unveiling of Kim Hee-sun’s character stills from Alice, the upcoming SBS human sci-fi series has also released snaps of television star Joo Won as he morphs into a ruthless police investigator for the male lead role.

Alice is a fantasy melodrama that depicts the existence of time travelers from the future who come to the present through a device called “Alice.” It centers on Park Jin-gyum (Joo Won, My Sassy Girl), a daring yet apathetic detective, and Yoon Tae-yi (Kim Hee-sun, Room No. 9), a woman who resembles Jin-gyum’s mother who passed away a long time ago. Fueled by the same objective, the two of them set out on a quest to discover the secrets behind time traveling.

In the newly dropped character visuals from the series, Joo Won conveys the fierceness of Park Jin-gyum by putting on a very determined and focused face during one of his shooting practices. As he points the gun at the target, his firm lips and cold eyes give the impression that he is not someone who easily grants mercy to wrongdoers, let alone grave criminals. In addition, Joo Won exudes an intense and masculine charm that adds to the viewers’ anticipation of how the story of the male protagonist will unfold.

The production team of the new series shared, “Park Jin-gyum is a character who needs to convincingly capture the gradual changes on his innate apathetic behavior as the tale develops. With that alone, it can be said that the role requires a thorough character analysis and full immersion in order to give it a remarkable portrayal. Following a series of preparation, Joo Won successfully braved through the challenge and displayed an incredible performance in the drama, so we ask for your continued interest and expectations.”

Alice is directed by Baek Soo-chan of Into the World Again (2017) and employs the collaborative effort of screenwriters Kim Kyu-won, Kang Cheol-kyu, and Kim Ga-young. Slated to hit the small screen on August 28, the drama will air every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. KST, replacing Backstreet Rookie.
