SBS’s upcoming human sci-fi series Alice has dropped its main poster that features a heartbreaking first-look at lead stars Joo Won and Kim Hee-sun.
Alice is a fantasy melodrama that tells the story of a detective who discovers the existence of time travel and crosses paths with a woman whose appearance is the spitting image of his dead mother.
In the official poster for the series, Park Jin-gyum (Joo Won, My Sassy Girl) and Yoon Tae-yi (Kim Hee-sun, Room No. 9) gaze at each other while standing against what appears as a single background that is divided into two different periods of the day, denoting that the two protagonists live at different times.
Taking the starry night side is Jin-gyum, who has a serious and slightly confounded expression on, as if confused by the fact that the woman in front of him looks like his mother, whom he lost many years ago. Now, he has become a fearless detective with congenital apathy whose main goal in life is to catch the culprit behind her unjust death. In the course of tracking the murderer down, he will find out about people from the future who come to the present through a device called “Alice.”
Meanwhile, in the dusk-lit side is Tae-yi, who confidently matches Jin-gyum’s gaze with the same intensity. Tae-yi is a physics professor at Hankook University who mastered calculus at the age of six and entered the Department of Physics at age 15. On top of her impressive intelligence, Tae-yi was also bestowed with a one-of-a-kind beauty, overflowing enthusiasm, and admirable assertiveness. She dreams of making a change in the world through Science. However, Tae-yi soon finds herself drawn to Jin-gyum, a strange man who claims that she looks exactly like his departed loved one.
Adding curiosity and tension to the mood emanating from the main promo visual is the phrase at the center that reads, “No matter what world you’re in, I’ll protect you.” This could hint that as they both set out to discover the secret behind time traveling, Jin-gyum and Tae-yi will unexpectedly grow attached to each other.
Alice is directed by Baek Soo-chan of Into the World Again (2017) and employs the collaborative work of screenwriters Kim Kyu-won, Kang Cheol-kyu, and Kim Ga-young. Scheduled to hit the small screen on August 28, the drama will air every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. KST, replacing Backstreet Rookie.
