Actress Jo Soo-min will be starring in her first ever sageuk (historical drama)!
On October 9, Jo’s agency announced that the actress was cast in the KBS2 drama Secret Royal Inspector (tentative title). Set in the Joseon era, the new multi-genre drama will follow a secret royal inspector of the royal family that eliminates corruption and relieves people’s resentment against the acts of greed. The secret royal inspectors serve as the King’s eyes and ears, but they can never reveal their true selves to the people. It stars Kim Myung-soo (Welcome), Lee Tae-hwan (Graceful Friends), Kwon Na-ra (Itaewon Class), and Lee Yi-kyung (Welcome to Waikiki 2).
In the drama, Jo Soo-min will play the role of Kang Soon-ae, the daughter of a prostitute and the first love of secret royal inspector Sung Yi-gyum (played by Kim Myung-soo). Soon-ae is a woman who chooses to overcome discrimination and hardship rather than to become a prostitute. She is more interested in a world where the good always wins. Soon-ae, who has a secret that she hides from Yi-gyum, is expected to show a bold appearance to change the world.
Aside from Secret Royal Inspector, Jo Soo-min is also set to appear in another drama, Penthouse, which will air this coming October 26. Prior to these projects, she appeared in several notable series, including The Invisible Man Choi Jang-soo (2006), Melody of Love (2013), and Touch Your Heart (2019). The actress last starred in the romance web drama Ending Again, which premiered last February.
Meanwhile, Secret Royal Inspector will be spearheaded by director Kim Jung-min (Selection: The War Between Women), in collaboration with two screenwriters, Park Sung-hoon and Kang Min-sun. The drama is set to premiere in the latter part of the year.
