Jo Jung-suk, Jung Kyung-ho, Yoo Yeon-seok attend script reading for ‘Wise Doctor Life’

The creators of the critically acclaimed Reply series and black comedy Prison Playbook are back with a new drama titled Wise Doctor Life, and although it is still a few months away from its premiere in 2020, tvN has already released the photos taken during its first script reading session. (Most Korean dramas release script reading images before revealing their main promotional materials in the form of posters and teaser videos.)

The upcoming medical drama boasts of a star-studded cast led by Jo Jung-suk, Jung Kyung-ho, Yoo Yeon-seok, Kim Dae-myung, and Jeon Mi-do, who all attended the table read. It follows five long-time friends who have gone to the same medical school in 1999 and now work together in one hospital.

Also known as Doctor Playbook, Wise Doctor Life is directed by PD Shin Won-ho and penned by writer Lee Woo-jung, the same duo who worked on the famous Reply or Answer Me series. Shin won Best Director at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards in 2016 for Reply 1988.

Medical dramas are very common in Korea, but Wise Doctor Life‘s focus on the ordinary and everyday stories of hospital employees and patients sets it apart from other medical series. “It is not a drama that is incredibly thrilling or has a dramatic plot,” PD Shin Won-ho commented during the script reading.

Wise Doctor Life is a project I started while thinking about telling the stories of people who live through an atmosphere filled with birth, old age, sickness, and death,” the director also said.

As with PD Shin’s previous dramas, including Prison Playbook (2017-2018), Wise Doctor Life is expected to deliver a character-driven narrative full of relatable plots that will make the viewers feel a deep, emotional connection to the characters.

Also in attendance at the script reading session are supporting cast members Kim Hae-sook, Jung Moon-sung, Moon Tae-yu, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Jun-han, Choi Young-joon, Ahn Eun-jin, Ha Yun-kyung, Kim Hye-in, Cho Yi-hyun, Bae Hyun-sung, Kim Soo-jin, and Choi Young-woo.
