Acting stars Ji Sung, Kim Min-jung, Jinyoung, and Park Gyu-young have come together at the first table read for their upcoming drama The Devil Judge.
Slated to take tvN’s Saturday-Sunday, prime-time slot, The Devil Judge aims to convey a message about justice through a “live courtroom show” that the entire nation participates in. It will make viewers wonder if Kang Yo-han (Ji Sung), the titular devil judge, is a hero of the people or a demon hiding behind the mask of law.
In the drama’s initial read-through, male lead Ji Sung (Doctor John) is said to have remarkably transformed into his character Kang Yo-han. Actress Kim Min-jung (My Fellow Citizens) sat beside Ji while she gave voice to Yo-han’s greatest nemesis, Jung Sun-ah. Ji and Kim reportedly showcased an intense exchange of lines to preview of their teeth-gritting “devil” versus “demon” rivalry.
In addition, Jinyoung (When My Love Blooms) graced the event as Kim Ga-on, an associate trial judge who is considered a ray of hope amidst a dystopian world. The singer-actor was joined by Park Gyu-young of Sweet Home (2020) fame, who breathed life to Ga-on’s childhood friend Yoon Soo-hyun. While delivering their lines, Jinyoung and Park have effectively shared a subtle emotional dilemma as they take one step forward, two steps back from being almost lovers to just close friends.
Among the other cast members in attendance were Kim Jae-kyung (The Secret Life of My Secretary), Jang Young-nam (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay), and Jung In-gyeom (River Where the Moon Rises), who were all deeply immersed into their respective roles.
“I’ve been working really hard since December. I’m excited to film this drama, hoping that it will turn out as best as I’ve tried,” Ji Sung said in the script reading video released via tvN Drama’s official YouTube channel. Kim Min-jung also expressed strong aspirations, stating, “We will work well together to show you better performances.”
The Devil Judge is helmed by Children of Nobody (2018–2019) director Choi Jung-gyu, while author and real-life judge Moon Yoo-seok (Ms. Hammurabi) is in charge of the screenplay.
