Ji Chang-wook, Kim Ji-won courted to headline drama to be led by ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’ director

Fans may not have to say goodbye to Ji Chang-wook for long after Backstreet Rookie! While his current series, where he plays the lead character, is still airing, he is being courted to star in yet another show, and this time, with actress Kim Ji-won.

The short-form drama will reportedly be helmed by It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (ongoing) director Park Shin-woo.

The upcoming series from KakaoTV titled Love Laws of City Men and Women (also City Couple’s Way of Love) follows a dangerous game of love in a city. A industry official announced on July 27 that Ji Chang-wook and Kim Ji-won have been tapped to headline the series.

Ji’s agency Glorious Entertainment confirmed the report and said that the actor has “received the offer and is currently reviewing it.” Kim’s agency SALT Entertainment also verified the news and shared, “Kim Ji-won’s potential appearance in the new drama Love Laws of City Men and Women is being discussed positively.”

Both director Park Shin-woo and actor Ji Chang-wook, if he accepts the offer, will have a short period of time to rest after their current shows end, as the production is expected to start filming by October and aims to broadcast its first episode by November.

Meanwhile, if she takes the role, this will be Kim Ji-won’s first acting project after signing an exclusive contract with her new agency last February. She last appeared in the 2019 fantasy series Arthdal Chronicles, where she starred with Descendants of the Sun actor Song Joong-ki. The series was renewed for a second season and was supposedly scheduled to film this 2020. However, due to the current pandemic, the production had to delay filming until next year, as some international locations are temporarily off limits.

Love Laws of City Men and Women will be broadcast on KakaoTV and will be different from the existing drama format. Targeting mobile users, the production will have a total of 12 episodes, with each episode running for 25 minutes. This broadcast style also opens the possibility for a second season.

Fans and viewers alike are already anticipating the possible pair-up of Ji Chang-wook and Kim Ji-won, who are both known for their visuals and versatile acting performances. The script will be a collaborative work of Jung Hyun-jung of Romance Is a Bonus Book (2019) and Jung Da-yeon.

The name Luna literally translates to "moon" and nothing special; she just likes writing at night.
