Jang Hyuk will be making a special appearance on the upcoming KBS variety-drama The Big Hit, which is co-directed by his very close friend Cha Tae-hyun. Behind-the-scene photos released by the network show the two actors working together on the set of the drama.
One representative of the drama described how the actors worked on the set, saying “The two were like kids happily playing together. You can immediately tell that they are good friends and their chemistry is great. They were both actively spitting out ideas for how to shoot the scene.” The representative also revealed that Cha Tae-hyun put in a lot of effort to make Jang Hyuk’s character cool. Jang Hyuk was contacted just a day before the filming but he did not hesitate to take the cameo role in support of his close friend.
The Big Hit marks Cha Tae-hyun’s debut as a director. He is a long-time actor who last played his leading drama role in The Producers. Joining him as the executive producer of the upcoming drama is Seo Soo-min who directed The Producers in 2015.
The variety-drama centers on the lives of a young boy band member and a trainee idol as they pursue their dreams in a harsh world. Yoon Shi-yoon (Three Colors of Fantasy – Romance Full of Life) and Kim Min-jae (Goblin) plays the trainee idol and band member, respectively.
In the second episode of the drama, Jang Hyuk will appear as “Bluetooth Man” who startles Yoon Shi-yoon’s character by talking to himself. Aside from him, several other actors had been confirmed to cameo in the drama including Lee Kwang-soo (Entourage), Choi Hwa-jung (Jealosuy Incarnate), Ahn Gil-kang (Mystery Queen), and Go Chang-seok (Kim Seon-dal).
The Big Hit is KBS’s second attempt at the variety-drama hybrid format in television (following The Producers). It will air every Fridays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. KST starting June 2.
