Im Si-wan, Shin Se-kyung, Sooyoung, Kang Tae-oh confirmed to star in new drama ‘Run On’

The upcoming JTBC sports-themed romantic drama Run On has announced that stars Im Si-wan, Shin Se-kyung, Sooyoung, and Kang Tae-oh will comprise its lineup of main cast.

Run On tells the story of a former track and field athlete who was forced to quit and follow a different path due to an unfortunate case in the past.

Im Si-wan signed up for the character Ki Sun-gyeom, a once popular sprinter for the national team who ended up at the sidelines as a sports agent. Im made his official acting debut in the multi-awarded sageuk (historical) drama The Moon Embracing the Sun (2012). He gained even more popularity when he starred in the cultural phenomenon Misaeng: Incomplete Life (2014). His latest appearance was in OCN’s psychological thriller series Strangers from Hell (2019).

Acting opposite Im is actress Shin Se-kyung who will play Oh Mi-joo. She is a writer of subtitle translations for movies. Mi-joo got thrilled when she saw her name as a translator during the end credits of the first-ever movie that she worked on. She soon meets Ki Sun-gyeom who just gave up on his dream of becoming a successful sprinter and gets a feeling that destiny deemed for them to get to know each other for a reason. Shin most recently played her first title role as a free-spirited female historian in the MBC drama Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (2019).

Also joining them are actors Sooyoung and Kang Tae-oh. Sooyoung will play the character Seo Dan-ah, CEO of a sports agency and the only child of the man who heads the Seomyung Group. Because of her gender, she is pushed back on the list of potential successors to the business, but she decides to live fiercely to take back what originally belonged to her. Kang Tae-oh will appear in her life as Lee Young-hwa, a university student majoring in art who likes movies and croquis drawing. She asks him to draw for her, which made him curious of her intentions.

Sooyoung (Choi Soo-young) is a member of the internationally famous girl group Girl’s Generation. She first ventured into the field of television acting in 2008 with KBS2’s Unstoppable Marriage. She gained praise for her performance in OCN’s suspense thriller Tell Me What You Saw (2020). Meanwhile, Kang Tae-oh displayed remarkable portrayals in dramas such as That Man Oh-soo (2018), My First First Love (2019), and The Tale of Nokdu (2019).

A representative of the production team shared, “Run On will tell the story of two people who were previously walking on different paths. As they meet, they will grow and break the mold they had locked themselves into, as well as influence and love one another. We hope that the drama will provide viewers with some time to think about the language and method of communication we used to convey our inspiring messages. Renowned actors Im Si-wan, Shin Se-kyung, Sooyoung, Kang Tae-oh, and other cast members who have great acting talents as well as an impressive presence will reach out to the viewers through this unique romance drama in the second half of the year. We ask for your anticipation and interest.”

Run On will be helmed by director Lee Jae-hoon of KBS2’s The Ghost Detective (2018) and is gearing to premiere in the second half of 2020.
