Hyun Bin’s ‘Crash Landing On You’ crosses 8% in TV ratings

Hyun Bin‘s ongoing drama Crash Landing On You has surpassed the 8 percent mark in TV ratings on Sunday night, data from Nielsen Korea show.

The romantic comedy pulled in 2.2 million viewers nationwide and achieved a rating of 8.499 percent during Sunday’s episode, making it the 4th highest-rated Korean drama in terms of peak ratings among all the cable series that premiered in 2019. It is trailing behind The Light In Your Eyes (9.7%), The Crowned Clown (10.9%), and Hotel del Luna (12.0%). On the other hand, it beat the records of Graceful Family (8.478%) and Arthdal Chronicles (7.7%).

Crash Landing On You kicked off its broadcast on December 14 with an impressive rating of 6.1 percent, the third-highest rating for a cable drama premiere this year. The second episode saw an increase to 6.8 percent while the third recorded 7.4 percent. The average ratings of cable dramas from 2016 to 2018 stand at 2-4 percent, so Crash Landing On You‘s ratings are well above average.

Directed by Lee Jung-hyo (Romance Is A Bonus Book) and written by Park Ji-eun (My Love From The Star), Crash Landing On You tells the love story of a South Korean heiress, played by Son Ye-jin, and a North Korean soldier (Hyun Bin), who have crossed paths with each other for the first time due to a paragliding accident. Seo Ji-hye and Kim Jung-hyun play the secondary leads.

The series is unsurprisingly performing well in viewership mainly because of its A-list lead actors. Hyun Bin starred previously in Memories Of The Alhambra opposite Park Shin-hye while Son Ye-jin headlined Something In The Rain along with Jung Hae-in. The Baeksang-winning actors previously worked together in the 2018 film The Negotiation.

The popularity of the series is also reflected in the list of the most buzzworthy or talked about Korean dramas from December 9 to 15. The drama topped the said ranking with a buzz score of 23.6 percent.
