Hani, Kim Min-kyu in talks for new drama by ‘Misaeng’ writer

Ahn Hee-yeon, better known by her stage name Hani, might star in a new drama soon!

Sublime Artist Agency, Hani’s label, confirmed reports that the idol-turned-actress has been offered the lead role in JTBC’s upcoming drama Idol. Following this, it was revealed that Produce X 101 contestant Kim Min-kyu, who recently made his acting debut in the web drama Pop Out Boy! (2020), had also been offered a role in the show. If Hani and Kim Min-kyu say “yes,” Idol would mark the first lead roles for both in a full-fledged drama.

Hani debuted in 2012 as a member of the girl group EXID. In late 2014, she shot to national popularity after a fan-taken video of her performing the song “Up & Down” went viral, leading to renewed interest in her group. She promoted as a member of EXID until her contract expired in 2019, following which she chose to sign with an acting agency in order to focus on her acting career. She is still a member of EXID, although the group is on indefinite hiatus as of writing this article.

Hani then went on to star in the Naver TV web drama XX (2020) and the sci-fi anthology series SF8 in the episode White Crow (2020). She is starring in the KakaoTV web drama How To Be Thirty along with Jung In-sun (Psychopath Diary), CNBLUE’s Kang Min-hyuk (Oh My Ladylord), and Song Jae-rim (I Wanna Hear Your Song). Hani also has a movie titled Young Adult Matters that is set for release on April 15. Watch the trailer for the film below:

Idol will be directed by Noh Jong-chan, known for directing Personal Taste (2010), Blooded Palace: The War of Flowers (2013), and Clean With Passion for Now (2018–2019). Jung Yoon-jung, best known for writing shows like Misaeng: Incomplete Life (2014) and The Bride of Habaek (2017), will pen the script.
