Ha Ji-won (The Time We Were Not In Love) and CNBLUE’s Kang Min-hyuk (Entertainer) are confirmed to star opposite each other in the new MBC medical drama called Hospital Ship, which is about the stories of young medical doctors who travel across different islets to render medical service to the local people.
Ha Ji-won will play the role of Song Eun-jae, an overachieving and competitive surgeon. She also has a soft side but is insensitive to most things. After she gets in trouble with her boss and her family faces public ruin, she starts her work as a doctor aboard a hospital ship that sails around small islands to provide medical services to the locals. She then develops an attitude to put her patients first, which she did not practice during her first years of being a surgeon.
Kang Min-hyuk is up to play the leading male character who has a warm heart and a strong sense of empathy. The last drama he worked on was in 2016. He played the role of Jo Ha-neul in Entertainer. His other credits include The Heirs, My Husband Got a Family, Heartstrings, and It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl. His performance in Entertainer earned him an Excellence Award for romantic comedy drama during the 2016 SBS Drama Awards. In 2013, he also received the New Star Award for his performance on The Heirs from the same award ceremony.
Hospital Ship is written by Secret Door and Hwang Jin Yi screenwriter Yoon Seon-joo. Ha Ji-won starred in Hwang Jin Yi a decade ago, so she is reuniting with the writer this year in Hospital Ship. The drama will be helmed by Park Jae-Bum, who directed A New Leaf and Star Again.
The drama will premiere in August for a Wednesday-Thursday broadcast after Man Who Dies To Live, which will follow the currently airing Ruler: Master of the Mask.
