ELRISE to produce dramatization of webtoon ‘The Year We Turned 29,’ announces target production schedule

The talent agency slash production company ELRISE has announced its plan to produce a drama adaptation of the popular NAVER webtoonThe Year We Turned 29.” Furthermore, it has revealed that the production phase of the project is already scheduled to begin in the second half of the year.

Described as a youth romantic comedy, “The Year We Turned 29” follows the story of three female best friends, who each face a particular life crisis on the year before they all reach the age of 30.

The three protagonists in the webcomic are Bong Woo-ri, Cha Woo-ri, and Kim Woo-ri. Fate not only bestowed them the same name, it also brought them together and allowed them to form an incredible friendship, a special bond which they depend on to get them through every trial ahead. While struggling to find fulfillment in her job, Bong Woo-ri becomes even more troubled because of her long-time boyfriend who seems to be drifting away from her lately. Unlike her, Cha Woo-ri has no space for romance in her mind as she only thinks of earning money. She believes that while people may betray her, money never will. Meanwhile, Kim Woo-ri is someone who has never dated before and has now grown anxious about her repetitive life and uncertain future.

The ongoing webtoon is created by manhwa (Korean term for comics) author and illustrator Lady Watermelon. It was serialized on NAVER in March 2019 and has since consistently maintained around 100,000 avid readers who come from various age groups. Always among the top Saturday webtoons, the work is currently on its 67th episode and features fresh entries weekly. It has become very well-received by fans that they have made up an imaginary cast of characters for it, consisting of various famous actors, ultimately fueling the recent effort for its dramatization.
