Synopsis

Seven Day Queen is based on the real story of ill-fated lovers King Jungjong and Queen Dangyeong of Joseon dynasty. The drama centers on their love story and how they are forced apart by political battles that led to Queen Dangyeong being dethroned and expelled from the palace after seven days. The dethronement of the Queen is caused by a political issue involving her father.

Park Min-young as Shin Chae-kyung/Lady Shin/Queen Dangyeong. She is a young woman set up to marry Prince Lee Yeok. She willingly accepts the arranged marriage but is then bound in misery as political disputes ensue, forcing her to be removed from the Palace as the Queen. She becomes queen for only seven days.

Yeon Woo-jin as Lee Yeok/King Jungjong. As a young boy, he was forced to marry young Lady Shin under a marriage arranged by his older half-brother Lee Yoong and Lady Shin’s father. He wants to become a good king but is pulled into a miserable life through Lee Yoong’s tyranny. Exiled by his half-brother, he promises to return for Lady Shin and the throne.

Lee Dong-gun as Lee Yoong/King Yeonsangun. He is Lee Yeok’s notorious half-brother who sees Lee Yeok as a threat to his political ambitions.
