Doh Kyung-soo, IU win Most Popular Actor, Actress at 55th Baeksang Arts Awards

Do Kyung-soo and IU have won Most Popular Actor and Actress, respectively, at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. The ceremony, which will take place five days from now, has not officially given the awards yet but the results of the public voting that determines the winners already announced them as the recipients.

The popularity prizes for this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards are called the “V LIVE Favorite Artist” awards, which will be given to one male and one female artists representing a Korean drama or film. Anyone from around the world can help an actor and actress win the awards by voting for them through the VLIVE website. The voting opened on April 12 and closed on April 26 at 11:59 pm KST.

Based on the recently published results on the said website, the male V LIVE Favorite Artist this year is actor-singer Doh Kyung-soo (also known as D.O.), with 50.04% of the 361,105 votes. D.O. starred in the historical romance drama 100 Days My Prince, which achieved record television viewership and became the 3rd highest-rated Korean drama last year in terms of average and peak ratings.

In second place is actor Park Bo-gum, with 17.48% of the total votes. He headlined the romantic drama Encounter opposite actress Song Hye-kyo. Kim Nam-gil (The Fiery Priest), Cha Eun-woo (My ID is Gangnam Beauty), and Hyun Bin (Memories of the Alhambra) round out the top 5.

Meanwhile, the female V LIVE Favorite Artist of 2019 is IU who received 53.52% of the total votes (145,548). The singer-actress starred in the critically acclaimed melodrama My Ajusshi, alongside Lee Sun-kyun.

Song Hye-kyo (Encounter) and Park Shin-hye (Memories of the Alhambra) come in second and third, respectively, while Kim Yoo-jung (Clean With Passion For Now) and Kim Seo-hyung (Sky Castle) complete the top 5.
