Sought-after actor Hyun Bin has bagged the Daesang or Grand Prize at the 2020 APAN Star Awards for his outstanding performance as Captian Ri Jeong-hyeok in the hit romantic-comedy series Crash Landing on You (CLOY).
Following the announcement of his victory, the 38-year-old star went onstage to receive the highly coveted trophy. In his acceptance speech, Hyun Bin first thanked the drama’s supportive fans, saying, “I am happy to be able to start 2021 with such a big prize. I am now more motivated to do better this year to repay this honor. Up until this moment, I have been receiving lots of love for Crash Landing on You. We are truly grateful to the fans who have watched Crash Landing on You in Korea and from all over the world.”
He also gave his appreciation to the production team and his co-stars, especially to his then onscreen partner now real-life lover, actress Son Ye-jin (Something in the Rain). He continued, “Many people worked hard to create Crash Landing on You. Thank you to the writer, director, and all of the staff. It was an honor to work and keep up with talented peers, seniors, and juniors, who all showed great acting. I am also grateful to Son Ye-jin, who made Yoon Se-ri the best partner for Ri Jeong-hyeok. Thanks to Ye-jin’s brilliant portrayal of Se-ri, Jeong-hyeok was able to come to life. Thank you.”
To close his speech, Hyun Bin stated, “I will practice more in the future and show you a better version of me. I think I will be able to meet you through a movie this year. I’m cautiously looking forward that it will happen on a day when we can finally take off our masks and greet one another with a smile. Please stay healthy and happy. I hope this year will be better than the last.”
Regarded as one of South Korea’s prestigious award-giving bodies, APAN Star Awards aims to recognize excellence in both terrestrial and cable television entertainment. For its seventh year, APAN took the celebration to The Peace Hall of Kyunghee University in Seoul and was hosted by renowned entertainer Kim Seung-woo (Late Night Restaurant). Two months after its postponement due to COVID-19, the annual event was finally held this January 23 (Star) and 24 (Music), wherein the second day acknowledged the many contributions that were made to the music industry in 2020. The integrated 2020 APAN MusicStar Awards was broadcast exclusively on online platforms Olleh TV and Seezn.
