A Choi Jin-hyuk and Park Joo-hyun team-up is confirmed to happen in The Zombie Detective (working title), KBS2’s upcoming human fantasy drama.
The Zombie Detective tells the story of a zombie who was resurrected two years ago and has since taken on a new human identity to live among ordinary people.
Choi Jin-hyuk transforms into a zombie who hides under the name Kim Moo-young, CEO of a private investigation firm. In the past, he was already about to accept his fate when he came across a corpse with no family or friends. In order to take over the dead man’s former life, he began developing his locomotion as well as his speech manners to mimic a human being. He then embarks on a series of mystery-solving to uphold his newfound identity as a detective.
Choi started receiving positive attention from local and international viewers since his performance in Gu Family Book (2013) and his convincing portrayal of Lee Min-ho’s older half-brother in the popular drama The Heirs (2013). He then went on to widen his acting repertoire through a number of small-screen appearances and has recently landed lead roles in well-received projects such as KBS2’s legal drama Justice (2019) and OCN’s webtoon-based crime series Rugal (2020).
Acting opposite Choi is actress Park Joo-hyun who signed up to play Kong Sun-ji, a highly optimistic, fair-minded, and persistent writer for an investigative current affairs program. When a witness for a case she was working on gets attacked by an unidentified assailant, she decides to quit her job. She later comes across Kim Moo-young and takes a part-time post at his agency.
This year has seen quite a streak of Park’s acting career. After making her small-screen debut in the drama A Piece of Your Mind, she went straight to portraying her first main role in Netflix’s youth crime series Extracurricular. Even with only two projects in, the actress’ previous performances and promising talent proved to be enough to land her a role alongside an experienced actor such as Choi Jin-hyuk.
The Zombie Detective commits to deliver a new concept among zombie dramas with unique characters, fast-paced progress, refreshing humor, and spectacular action scenes. The series will be helmed by director Shim Jae-hyun of The Producers (2015) and penned by scriptwriter Baek Eun-jin of Ssunday Seoul (2006).
