Bride of the Water God premiered Monday night and achieved a nationwide rating of 3.660 % according to Nielsen Korea. The drama’s episode 1 rating is the highest among the first episode ratings of all tvN dramas that have aired so far in 2017.
Bride of the Water God is tvN’s fourth Monday-Tuesday drama this year. Its pilot episode rating far exceeds its predecessors’. Introverted Boss premiered with 2.967 % while The Liar and His Lover and the recently ended Circle recorded 1.524 % and 2.883 %, respectively. It also beats out the network’s weekend dramas which have been aired to date as Tomorrow With You premiered with 3.178 %, Chicago Typewriter with 2.649 %, and Secret Forest with 3.041 %. It ranks third among all the cable dramas that have aired so far this year in terms of pilot episode ratings, following Man to Man and Strong Woman Do Bong Soon which achieved 4.055 % and 3.829 %, respectively.
In the Seoul area, the drama achieved an even higher rating of 4.052 % which also stands out among the rest when being compared to the equivalent rating of other tvN dramas. In terms of ratings in Seoul, the drama’s pilot episode rating is the second highest among all the cable dramas that premiered in 2017, next only to Man to Man‘s 4.808 %.
Bride of the Water God is a fantasy romance drama that centers on So-ah, a doctor destined to be the bride of Ha Baek (Water God) who sets foot on earth to do something and ends up meeting her. So-ah is played by Shin Se-kyung (Six Flying Dragons) while Ha Baek is portrayed by Nam Joo-hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo). Im Ju-hwan, Krystal Jung, and Gong Myung complete the main cast of the drama.
Bride of the Water God is the modern-day spin-off of a historical fantasy webtoon with the same title. It took over Circle in the Monday-Tuesday timeslot and will be followed by Argon in the last week of August or the first week of September.
