MBN’s first historical drama and 10th-anniversary special Bossam: Steal the Fate has recorded the highest final-episode rating in the cable network’s decade-long drama broadcast history.
According to Nielsen Korea, the drama’s last episode, which aired July 4, scored an average rating of 9.759 percent nationwide, which means that approximately 1.9 million viewers tuned in during its much-awaited series finale. Earlier in its run, Bossam: Steal the Fate made another breakthrough when it aired MBN’s top-rated premiere episode to date.
In addition, Bossam: Steal the Fate achieved a total average rating of 6.042 percent nationwide, an impressive figure that would technically make the title MBN’s highest-rated of all time. (The recognition holds true if every MBN drama with no available viewership data is to be excluded from consideration.)
Set in the Joseon dynasty, Bossam: Steal the Fate follows a degenerate man who does everything for money, even bossam, a Korean custom of kidnapping widows for remarriage. The act is illegal as widows during that time are not allowed to remarry. It stars Jung Il-woo (Sweet Munchies) as the immoral Ba Woo, who mistakenly kidnaps the daughter-in-law of his enemy, and Kwon Yu-ri (Breakup Probation, A Week) as Princess Hwain (Yi Su-kyeong) who gets abducted by accident.
