tvN’s Saturday and Sunday drama Start-Up is a story of how young entrepreneurs struggle and fight for their dreams in the fictional, Silicon Valley-inspired tech hub called Sandbox. Bae and Nam play the central characters Seo Dal-mi and Nam Do-san, respectively, who are young, struggling entrepreneurs who want to make it big in the industry. Also included in the lead cast are Kim Seon-ho (Catch the Ghost) and Kang Han-na (Designated Survivor: 60 Days), who portray Han Ji-pyeong and Won In-jae, who each play an important role in the development of the story.

So far, the series has been receiving decent ratings from its local audience, with the highest nationwide rating of 5.4%, as provided by Nielsen Korea, for its fifth episode, which aired on October 31. The series also remains a hit among its international fans, with each episode becoming a trending discussion in many social media platforms. In particular, Kim Seon-ho continues to experience a boost in popularity among fans for playing the character who is involved in a love triangle with Dal-mi and Do-san.

Idol-turned-actress Bae Suzy first debuted in the industry as a member of the idol group Miss A. She then landed her first ever lead role right in her debut TV project, the 2010 teen music drama Dream High, where she first worked with writer Park Hye-run (Page Turner). From then on, she was able to work with writer Park in SBS’s While You Were Sleeping (2017) and now in Start-Up. Start-Up‘s director Oh Choong-hwan (Hotel del Luna) also reunited with Bae and writer Park, since director Oh is also behind the legal fantasy drama While You Were Sleeping. The actress last starred in the SBS action thriller series Vagabond (2019).

On the other hand, Nam has been cast in supporting roles in many popular series in the past, such astvN’s Cheese in the Trap (2016) and SBS’s Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016). However, it was not until the success of his rom-com, sports-themed drama MBC’s Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo (2016–2017), his first ever lead role, that he was able to solidify his status as a Korean star and become a well-known actor. He then went on to star in tvN’s The Bride of Habaek (2017), JTBC’s The Light in Your Eyes (2019), and most recently, the Netflix original The School Nurse Files (2020), which aired in September.

Bae Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk may have said their farewell to their characters, but the viewers and fans still have six episodes to go before the series’ season finale on December 6. Start-Up airs every weekend on tvN at 9 p.m. KST.

Luna

It was Princess Lulu who first introduced her to Korean dramas but it was Yoon Ji-hoo from Boys Over Flowers who enticed her to stay in K-dramaland. She writes news and features for Kdramapal, which combines two of her most favorite things in the world—writing and K-dramas (look who's living the dream). The name Luna literally translates to "moon" and nothing special; she just likes writing at night.
