‘Arthdal Chronicles’ sees decline in TV ratings on 3rd episode

Ongoing tvN drama Arthdal Chronicles saw a decline in its TV ratings on Saturday when it aired its third episode. This after it hit the headlines last week for making the highest-rated cable drama premiere so far in 2019.

According to Nielsen Korea, the third episode of the highly-anticipated series recorded a nationwide audience share of 6.4 percent, which is smaller than the previous episode’s achievement of 7.3 percent. However, the drama still ranked first among all the cable TV programs which aired on June 8.

(UPDATE: Arthdal Chronicles hits 7% anew on its fourth episode. See in our daily ratings report.)

Arthdal Chronicles is an ancient historical Korean drama about the lives of mythical heroes in the fictional land of Arth. It boasts of a star-studded cast led by Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won, Jang Dong-gun, and Kim Ok-bin. The series airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m. Korean Standard Time.

On June 8, Studio Dragon—the production company of Arthdal Chronicles—released an official statement addressing the “exaggerated” reports about the working conditions in the sets of the drama. Amid the issue, however, the series is expected to pull in higher ratings in the coming weeks partly due to the generally positive reviews it received from the local audience. It also topped the ranking of the most buzzworthy or talked about Korean dramas from May 27 to June 2, 2019.

Meanwhile, OCN’s Voice 3 came in second in yesterday’s viewership ranking of cable shows, pulling in almost 4 percent for its 9th episode. It also recorded a slight decrease in its ratings.

In terrestrial TV, KBS2’s Mother Of Mine maintained its position as the highest-rated drama on weekends after obtaining 22.1 and 29.1 percent for its 45th and 46th episodes, respectively. Trailing behind it is SBS’s Nokdu Flower whose 27th and 28th episodes scored 4.6 and 5.7 percent, respectively. MBC’s Different Dreams posted similar numbers for its episodes 19 to 22: 4.7 percent, 5.1 percent, 4.8 percent, and 5.5 percent.
