‘Arthdal Chronicles’ confirmed to have second season

Arthdal Chronicles will return with a new season, tvN confirmed on February 13.

An epic fantasy drama set in the mythical land of Arth, Arthdal Chronicles centers on four unlikely heroes trying to fulfill their destinies while dealing with prophecies, political power struggles, and their tragic pasts. The first season of the drama ended with a vague conclusion last September, so fans have since been waiting for the confirmation of a new season.

The series was mired in controversies from the day it started airing, and the mixed reviews didn’t help, which had put the future of the story in question. Luckily, tvN has announced that they plan to go ahead and wrap up the story, with the shooting for the second season expected to begin in September or October this year.

Season 1 leading stars Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won, Jang Dong-gun, and Kim Ok-bin are all expected to reprise their roles. The production team of the drama is currently working out a schedule to accommodate the four actors.

PD Kim Won-sik directed the first season but he will not be returning to direct the sequel since he had originally signed on to direct only one season of the show. Besides, he already parted ways with the drama’s production company Studio Dragon, so his return is even more unlikely.

Kim Kyu-tae (It’s Okay That’s Love) and Hong Jong-chan (Her Private Life) are reportedly teaming up to direct the upcoming season.
