SBS has not officially and publicly announced yet that its 2016-2017 medical drama Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim will be returning for a new season. However, it seems that the sequel has long been greenlighted by the network considering that one actor has already been courted to star in the drama.
That actor is Ahn Hyo-seop, whose label Starhaus Entertainment confirmed on June 24 that he received an offer to play one of the leading roles in the second season of the said series.
Ahn Hyo-seop, who is starring with Park Bo-young in the ongoing drama Abyss, is now reviewing the role of a first year surgical fellow named Kim Woo-jin. Although he is cynical and unfriendly, he impresses his professors with his extraordinary concentration while performing surgeries and believes that he is a naturally skilled surgeon.
The Baeksang nominated first season of Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim aired from November 2016 to January 2017. Starring Han Suk-kyu, Seo Hyun-jin, and Yoo Yeon-seok, the series recorded an average and peak rating of 20.4 and 27.6 percent, respectively, becoming the second highest-rated Korean drama in 2016 (just next to Descendants of the Sun).
In May, Han Suk-kyu (Watcher) discussed his possible return to the second season of the drama but until now there is no official update confirming his participation in the upcoming production, let alone a casting offer to him. On the other hand, Seo Hyun-jin (The Beauty Inside) and Yoo Yeon-seok (Mr. Sunshine) already said that they will not reprise their roles in the sequel.
Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2 is expected to premiere in November.
