2020 Baeksang Arts Awards Winners (Film category)

Deemed as Korea’s own version of the Oscars, the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards has given the Daesang (Grand Prize) to Director Bong Joon-ho of Parasite (2019) as well as the recognition for Best Film to the internationally acclaimed black comedy movie itself.

The country’s most prestigious awards gathering is held annually to honor the cast and crew of films, TV programs, and theater productions. This year, works that were released between April 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020 were included in the selection of nominees.

Hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Bae Suzy, and Park Bo-gum for the third consecutive year, the event was held on June 5 at KINTEX, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The glamorous red carpet was broadcasted live on the show’s official TikTok account. Then it went live on JTBC at 5 p.m. and lasted until 7 p.m. KST.

The organizers had initially announced that they would not invite any audience due to COVID-19 concerns, but the improving situation of the pandemic in South Korea merited the attendance of a very limited number of personalities in the entertainment industry, mostly consisted of nominees, presenters, and staff.
